A Living Promise: A Sculpture That Celebrates Inclusion and Hope

August 24, 2026

Nestled within Enabling Village is A Living Promise, a striking wire sculpture created to commemorate the launch of Vista, a dedicated space that supports persons with disabilities beyond the age of 18.

Created in collaboration with renowned wire sculptor Victor Tan, the sculpture reflects Victor’s distinctive artistic practice, in which wire is his sole medium. Despite being visually challenged, Victor draws on his acute sense of touch and has developed his own techniques for twisting and bending metal wire into intricate and expressive forms.

His work explores existential ideas surrounding humanity, the complexities of human emotions, and the passage of time and life, often reflecting his innermost thoughts and experiences. His sculptures have been showcased internationally, from Tokyo to Copenhagen, and are held in both public and private collections. In Singapore, his works can be found at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Sentosa and the Asian Civilisations Museum.

Shaped like a flourishing tree, A Living Promise symbolises Enabling Village as a place where inclusion takes root and everyone has the opportunity to grow. Just as a tree is strengthened by its many branches, our community becomes stronger when people of different abilities come together, support one another, and thrive as one.

For Victor, wire is more than just a medium, it represents possibility. “Wire has this strength of building up from nothing in the air,” he shares.

“It has the strength to build up to a giant world, but yet it has the gentleness to build a soft, flowing effect of perhaps like hair or a sculpture that’s moving.”

This balance of strength and grace reflects the resilience and potential found within every individual.

Victor drew inspiration from his walks through Enabling Village, where the lush greenery and vibrant natural surroundings sparked the vision for the sculpture. Surrounded by flourishing flora and fauna, he imagined a space where people could gather, connect, and grow together, while looking towards a future filled with possibilities.

More than a work of art, A Living Promise invites every visitor to reflect on the kind of community we can build together, one that embraces differences, celebrates abilities, and creates opportunities for everyone to belong.

As Victor’s message reminds us, when we choose to see abilities, embrace diversity, and grow together as one community, we can build a future where everyone is empowered to flourish.
